On Friday night I found out we would be getting a new addition to our household:  a grill!!  Darryl has been wanting a grill/bbq for quite some time, and I’m not against the idea.  He got a $200 bonus earlier this summer so we thought that would be perfect.  We (Darryl mostly) has spent hours looking at different ones at Home Depot and Lowes and the internet and finally decided on one that he wanted.  Then we heard there was a Labor Day sale so we headed to the store last weekend.  No, it was only a sale on grill accessories, so it was still too expensive.  But on Friday Darryl found the grill he wanted, slightly used, on Craig’s List.  Actually a much better one than the one he wanted (I think), but because it was used it was $200!  So Saturday morning he borrowed a truck and drove to wherever the grill was (north of everett for anyone who knows what that means) and brought it back.  He spent much of the day cleaning it and admiring it.  I told Kathryn it was daddy’s new toy.  But Darryl said it is NOT a toy!  We had some grilled steak that night and it is sitting nicely on our “deck”.  I say “deck” with quotation marks because it is hardly big enough to be called a deck.   56 inches square, and the grill is 53 inches.

Kathryn’s birthday was last Monday and I have to admit it was so cute.  Since we had just gotten home from our trip and I was a little sick, we weren’t going to invite anyone over.  But at church Amanda Skidmore said they got her a present.  So we invited them and the Rices over.  The Rices brought a helium balloon that Kathryn loved and still plays with.  The Skidmores got her a leisure suit that Kathryn carried around most of the night.  She had already opened presents from Grandma Melanchuk and Bobbi (and family) while we were in Canada.  The bath toys are a hit, Bobbi.  Grandma Harrison also had sent Kathryn a doll, which she loves.  Now Kathryn has 3 dolls and she loves them all and likes to hold 2 at a time.  She even loved the cards people sent, and played with them more than once.  So she has got the birthday thing down!

I wrote a primary program this week, which took a few hours and even more hours to think about.  Andrea, how did you do programs in your ward?  I gave my presidency a copy on Sunday to read over and we will revise at our meeting this week.  I hope they don’t think it is weird or something.  Some of our friends asked us the other day what we would be doing for our 2nd anniversary.  I said, “Its the Primary Program!!”.  So that’s what I’ll be doing at least.

On Friday night we went to the Mariners game – our first (and probably only) this year.  It was a last minute thing and I tried all day Friday to get a babysitter for Kathryn, but wasn’t able to.  So we took her along and she was great!  We thought we’d have to leave early but we didn’t.  It was a great game, too.  A 3 run homerun and a grand slam!

Darryl got a new calling on Sunday – teachers quorum adviser.  He has only had clerk type callings since his mission (finance clerk, membership clerk, executive secretary, etc) so he is glad for a change.
