Family Email

Posted by Amanda on October 14th, 2006

I have been meaning to write a family email and I just got Suzie’s email so that inspired me.  Maybe she inspired me to get my hair cut, too.  But I think I recently decided to hold off on that until we go to a foreign country.  We are seriously on the path to a foreign assignment next fall.  There is still a lot to do, so anything can happen, but Darryl was told we should pick a country by November 15.  Have I written this in a family email before?  Sorry if I have.  Anyway we are thinking of Czech Republic, but just not sure what the right place for us will be.

Darryl has been working, working, WORKING!!!  But he also got a raise and a bonus.  He finally taught a lesson to the teachers quorum, and was finally able to make it to a Wednesday activity, which was a presidency meeting for the quorum.  There are only 4 active boys, so it makes a presidency.  The counselor in the YM presidency used to be the bishopric member over primary.  So I am always confused when Darryl calls him Jeff, because to me he is Brother Barlow.  Now our friend Dave is in the bishopric (over primary) and I have to call him Brother Rice.  It is hard for me to call people my own age Brother/Sister (our bishop is even my age).  And it is hard for me to call people older than me by their first name, like the primary teachers.

Tomorrow is our second practice for the primary program.  So far so good.  I am more excited than nervous.  It is so fun to watch the kids.  Today I went to 2 baby showers, and there are plenty more pregnant women in our ward.  Someone said it was like their BYU married ward.  I think that’s fun.  Our friend Amanda Skidmore had her baby yesterday morning (Friday the 13th) and we went that night to see them in the hospital.  He is named Sam and looks just like Chris (his dad).  We are already planning for him to marry Kathryn.

Now to the good stuff:  Kathryn!  She is really cute, to start with.  But then when I see other kids her age they are just as cute, so most of you know what I am talking about.  She tries to talk and does the full body nod, and loves her dada.  She also recently discovered Veggie Tales.  We have a DVD with 10 songs and I put that on one day.  Now she is always asking for “Bob”.  And she really does say Bob!  Then she dances to the music and laughs.  She also loves animals and gets very excited if we see a dog or a cat somewhere.  One day when I was sad earlier this week she came over to give me a hug and offered me her pacifier.  It was so cute!

We went to a farm/pumpkin patch with the playgroup this week.  I put some pictures of it on flickr.  She was a little scared in the pumpkin patch, but loved everything else.  It is so fun that she can start to do some things.  We were at Lowe’s today and they already had Christmas trees (fake) there.  Kathryn saw one and got super excited.  So that made me excited for Christmas this year with Kathryn.

Happy late Thanksgiving to all the Canadians.  We had a nice dinner with ham, mashed potatoes, rolls, beans, and pumpkin pie for Canada’s Thanksgiving last Monday.
