Family Email

Posted by Amanda on November 6th, 2006

For anyone who hasn’t seen our newest pictures on flickr, there is a special one with Kathryn making an announcement.  For Darryl’s family you can see the pictures at our website, melanchuk.com.  Or anyone else is welcome to go to our website, Darryl has been working on it this weekend but I think there is still a lot to do.

It has been quite awhile since I have sent a family email.  I haven’t done much more than the primary program and the trunk or treat.  The program went well, at least that is what everybody says.  I was pleased, especially with how good the kids were at the practices.  We didn’t have a Saturday practice which they have done in past years.  I think they did just fine without that.  We did have the kids come up the aisles singing “Scripture Power” which everyone loved.  I admit I didn’t think they could do it but we had some extra time one Sunday and tried it.  I was also impressed that many of the kids had their parts memorized, which I think is the best way to go.

The trunk or treat was also a success, including having many more people than we planned.  So we ran out of corndogs, but everyone seemed to have a good time anyway.  Personally I would never go to trunk or treat expecting a good dinner.  But I felt bad making the stake president and his wife wait for corndogs that were still cooking (warming).  All of these things are good experience and I already have ideas for what to do differently next year.

Yes it is raining in Seattle.  We had a particularly dry summer and fall has been mostly dry lately.  But a few days ago it started raining and it is harder rain than usual.  You may have heard on national news about flooding in some areas.  Who would have thought in Seattle.  More rain so far in November than we usually get in the whole month, and November is usually our wettest month.  I just learned that on the news.

We had one trick or treater last year and were hoping for more this year.  Unfortunately we just don’t live in the best trick or treat neighborhood:  we had zero.  Plus it was an extremely cold night.

We’re glad to hear Matthew is doing okay so far, and we are thinking about and praying for Heidi and her babies everyday.  Kathryn is always getting cuter, at least to us.  She understands a lot of words, but can’t quite say them, such as bath, bubble, baby, bear, book, balloon.  Yes there is a “b” theme.  But she also knows dog, duck, dinner, turkey.  When we ask a question she will answer “yeah” or shake her head no.  She says “yeah” in a really cute way.
