Pay It Forward

Posted by Amanda on March 28th, 2009

You’ve probably seen this on a few blogs already.  I decided to go for it and I will be getting “something crafty or yummy” from Code Yellow Mom.  She is mom to three boys and soon a little girl, and they go to church with us here in Kyiv.  I think she is super smart and super beautiful.

Yes, the other reason I am posting this is to get some comments on my blog!!

The Rules:

1. Be one of the first THREE to leave a comment on this post, which then entitles you to a handmade item from me.

2. Winners must post this challenge on your blog, meaning that you will Pay It Forward, creating a handmade gift – anything! – for the first three bloggers who leave a comment on YOUR post about this giveaway!

3. The gift that you send your THREE friends can be from any price range and you have 365 days to make/ship your item. This means you should be willing to maintain your blog at least until you receive your gift and have shipped your gifts. And remember, it’s the spirit and the thought that counts!

4. When you receive your gift, feel free to blog about it!

Happy Spring

Posted by Amanda on March 20th, 2009

I’m just posting some pictures in honor of spring.  I’m also hoping the weather gets a little warmer soon.  The girls tried on their spring clothes.  Pretty much Kathryn fits into most of her things from last year.  So does Amelia.  Fits into most of Kathryn’s things from last year, that is.

Miss K

Posted by Amanda on March 16th, 2009

Kathryn gave her first talk in Primary yesterday.  She was given the subject “Family members have important responsibilites”.  So for Family Home Evening last Monday we asked her what each member of our family did, and that became her talk.  I added a brief introduction and conclusion.  When it was her turn she walked right up to the front and I helped her give the talk.  It was so darling!  So here is the talk she gave (and remember she came up with these by herself):

In my family we all have responsibilities.  That means we all help each other.  My daddy makes dinner and lunch.  He goes to work to earn money.  My mommy makes dinner and lunch and breakfast.  She also takes care of the kids.  I help my mommy with Daniel.  I help clean up the toys.  Amelia helps make dinner.  She plays with me.  Daniel smiles.  I love my family.  In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Camrys are Cool

The picture above is in front of a very fancy hotel here in Kyiv.  Notice the 3 black Toyota Camrys.

I believe Darryl or I have mentioned this before:  A Camry is a VERY cool car here.  There are lots of BMWs, but it seems that the very next in line as far as coolness and fancy car is a black, “tricked out” Camry.  Yes, I just wrote “tricked out”, which is a word I would never actually use in my vocabulary because I am not really cool enough to use it.

Black Camrys are everywhere.  They always have tinted windows, and they look really fancy because the owners take care of them the way you would a really fancy car.  Here are a few quotes that Darryl has heard around the office:

“What is the nicest car the company owns?  Oh, definitely the Camry.”

“I just bought a small Honda.  I like it, but it’s no Camry.”

“Well, if I couldn’t get a Porsche or BMW, the next best thing would be a Camry.”

“Andriy (a Ukrainian partner) should be setting an example for the other staff and be smart with his money.  Instead, as soon as he made partner, he went out and bought a Camry.  What is THAT teaching the others?”

So mom and dad, I think that means you have really fancy cars!

Now, I have to admit that I am writing this on Darryl’s behalf, because he has been marveling at this phenomenon since the day we arrived in Ukraine.  I, on the other hand, don’t really understand the fancy car thing.  Why anyone would spend $100,000 on a car is beyond me (not that Camrys cost that much, but Darryl always points out those that do cost that much).

All I want when we go home is a car with 4 doors.  Red or blue, or green.  Or a minivan.

Yesterday was Daniel’s baby blessing at church.  Here are a couple pictures Darryl took before church.
