We had a garden! We garden! We’re gardeners!
One day last year we walked to our friend’s house and she let us pick and eat carrots from her garden. Kathryn was very inspired. She was finally able to inspire us to plant a garden. We have a small area of dirt, about 18 inches by 10 feet. We decided to plant a few peas, beans, and carrots.
Luckily it rained at least every other day, so we didn’t have to remember to water until later in the summer. The peas looked great! Unfortunately, overnight (it seemed) they pretty much died from some kind of bug. We did get 4 pods and enjoyed eating them.
The beans never seemed to grow. I think one of the kids was digging in the dirt shortly after they were planted. But we did get one bean! And it was tasty!
The carrots were our best product. It was so fun to pull one out and see a real carrot! The taste cannot compare to carrots from the store.
We had a great time watching things grow and consider our first garden a success. We plan to do it again!
