Big Boy

Posted by Amanda on January 25th, 2011

I think Daniel is just the cutest boy ever.  But I don’t expect everyone to agree – I assume everyone thinks their little boy is the cutest one ever.

Daniel is very much a boy.  Loves cars, trucks, trains, buses, and dogs.

He is also such a great helper.  He cleans up better than his sisters, is always willing to help.  He helps me with laundry, dinner, setting the table, vacuuming, toilets, sinks, mirrors, and sweeping.  I don’t dust much or he’d probably do that, too.  His main thing, though, is cooking.  He got a little kitchen for Christmas and lots of cooking accessories for his birthday.  He loves to play with them, but what he loves more is real cooking.  If I am in the kitchen (or Darryl), so is Daniel.  He wakes up from his nap asking when we can cook dinner.  He is very disappointed on leftover night.  He is also a little disappointed when food goes into the oven instead of on the burner where he can watch it and stir it.  He has a particular burner where he likes the pot/pan to go, and he always wants the lid to be on.  He has also been known to add ingredients when I am not looking.  Once he added a bunch of craisins to the green beans.  The girls and I didn’t think it looked appetizing, but Daniel ate all his beans and craisins!  And he likes to taste everything before it goes into the food, like spices.

Daniel’s 2nd Birthday

Posted by Amanda on January 25th, 2011

Daniel loves some of the Sesame Street characters, so I thought it would be fun to try making their faces on cupcakes.  I don’t know why I do that – I’m not artistic, but it just seems so fun to try something new.  I hesitate posting a picture, because I’m afraid it will end up on cake wrecks.  But for the record, I personally was pretty pleased with the result, and so were the kids!  Bert, Ernie, Elmo, and Big Bird, in case you couldn’t tell.  Daniel really loves Bert.

Amelia blew out one candle before Daniel had a chance.  But he blew out the other one on his first try.

Highlight for all is the baking of the cupcakes.  Or rather the tasting of the batter.

I blew up a bunch of balloons and forgot how much entertainment they would provide.  Daniel was beside himself with glee trying to throw and then catch a balloon.  No picture, though.  I should have taken a picture of the girls’ decorating as well.   Little pieces of crepe paper in random places.

My Reader

Kathryn has figured out to read.  I didn’t really have anything to do with it.  Once her preschool teacher asked me about it.  Apparently she was getting all the rhyming words quicker than most of the other kids.  I think Kathryn could see them written on the card.

The other day in the van she asked me,  “Mom, what’s that store called ‘Love Zone’?”

And today she said, “I saw that!  ‘No parking any time’!”
