The 6 Year Old

Posted by Amanda on September 29th, 2011

I wasn’t going to blog about Kathryn’s birthday because it didn’t seem that exciting.  But I changed my mind.

Kathryn turned 6 after her first week of kindergarten.  For her present Darryl took her on a special outing to Home Depot to pick her very own plant.  Kathryn loves plants and gardens and we thought she would love having something of her own.  She chose a rose bush!  No surprise there, Kathryn loves flowers, especially roses.

We put it in a large pot and she waters it everyday.  We will plant it in the yard when we move into a house.

She also got a doll pack-n-play, which she was extremely thrilled about.

And some fake flowers (she always asks for these whenever we see them from a store).

Kathryn wanted a castle cake and I unwittingly was excited to try making one.  After some toil and tears, a cake emerged.

I thought since we didn’t have a friend party and not a whole lot of family party, that she could take a treat to her kindergarten class.  We decided on homemade mints, and wrapped them in plastic wrap with some ribbon.  I sent them with Kathryn to school, and when we picked her up I asked how it went.  Unfortunately the kids could not get the ribbon off, so the teacher had to cut everyone’s open!  I felt so terrible.  I was the mom who sent something so annoying!  Oh well, it was my first try at taking birthday treats to a class.

Scenes from my Phone

I am excited to announce I recently joined the 21st century and got a cell phone.  Not just a phone, an iphone, and I am loving it.  My camera battery ran out and I have yet to locate the charger since we have about half the boxes still in the garage, so I have turned to my phone for picture taking.  Here are some recent ones:

This is the first day I got the phone, Darryl took it.  We are at the apartment pool.

Kids with cousins making cards for other cousins.  (We love you Courtney, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Camille!)  Daniel was actually have a great time, he just doesn’t like to smile for the camera.

Darryl was out of town and the kids wanted me to take pictures of our fish stick dinner.

For some reason wearing a bib is now cool.  I could never get these kids to wear bibs when they were younger, but now they frequently request a bib.

Amelia and Joshua

Posted by Amanda on September 25th, 2011

We are loving living close to cousins.  Especially cousins the same ages.  Kathryn and Hannah are in the same kindergarten class and the same class at church.  Amelia and Joshua are in the same class at church.  And David and Daniel go to nursery together at church.

Before we moved I knew Kathryn and Hannah were already friends, but Amelia and Joshua really hadn’t seen each other that many times.   One of the first times we got together A and J discovered they both love to pretend, and the rest is history.  Amelia and Joshua LOVE to play together.  They talk about each other, they just can’t wait to see each other.

We’ve captured a few pictures of them together.

Swimming at our apartment pool.  Joshua was a little stuck so Amelia came and pushed him to the other side of the pool.
