Kids Go to Work

Posted by Darryl Melanchuk on April 24th, 2014

Today was “Take Your Child to Work Day” at Darryl’s office. It worked out nicely, since our kids are on spring break. So I sent Kathryn, Amelia, and Daniel off to work this morning. They were super excited.

The organizers had requested a photo of each child, and made them each a KPMG badge key card thing (although it didn’t unlock doors). They looked official! Activities included a tour of the building, delivering mail, games, and drawing on the white board wall! Plus a pizza lunch with their parent. There were 17 kids that participated.

They came home with a bag full of KPMG goodies and quite a bit of candy. Pretty good recruiters! Later in the afternoon I found all three of them had made the girls room into an office. Each had their own space and was working hard. I could barely convince them to come down to dinner!

Hair Today . . .

I love long hair on these girls!

And I love that they are such good friends, and people still think they are twins.

But the tangles and tears were driving me crazy, plus their pleadings for short hair.

My 5 Year Old Boy

Posted by Darryl Melanchuk on February 6th, 2014

I can’t believe Daniel turned 5! I remember really enjoying him as a baby, and feeling like I actually knew what I was doing. It brings me so much joy to see him grow up. He loves to know how things work and where things are kept. He loves to plan things like outside Christmas lights. He is already thinking about our Halloween decorations for this year. Recently Darryl was fixing something on our computer. Daniel came to watch and said to me, “I need to watch Dad fix this so I will know how when I’m a dad.” He is just a mini Darryl – right down to his knack for cooking.

Lately Daniel has seemed really grown up to me. He plans (with me) and presents very thoughtful Family Home Evening lessons. One in December about Christmas symbols. And one in January about the Sacrament. Once he turned 5, Daniel was able to start Jr. Kindergarten. Free preschool 5 days a week! He is loving it and learning a lot.

I love this picture we took when the missionaries were over to dinner!

For his birthday Daniel got a two wheeled scooter, a belt for his Sunday pants, a backpack, and his own mini loaf pans.

Christmas Tradition

Posted by Darryl Melanchuk on January 5th, 2014

My mom always took a picture of each of us in front of the Christmas tree the Sunday before Christmas. I can’t not do this!

Darryl and me! Its our 10th Christmas in love!

Kathryn – she wore this dress that was once mine. She even let me braid her hair so she looks even more like mini me!

Amelia – wearing her favorite color!

Daniel – looking so handsome and really growing up!

Michael – such a character! We had to do several takes and I couldn’t resist posting a few. Someone should have gotten a bigger shirt and vest for Christmas!

And Nathaniel – loves grabbing onto his foot!

Not in front of the Christmas tree, but I had to mention that Darryl cooked a duck for Christmas dinner (we also had ham). I have come to realize that I love duck! I think it started when I was in China in 2002. So when Darryl came home from the store with a duck I was excited. Darryl did an excellent job and it tasted delicious. I think a new tradition is born…
